WHY WE EXIST...

I’m Mexican, and this started from something very personal. I grew up surrounded by pets. They’ve always been part of my home, my routines, and most of my happiest memories. At the same time, I grew up seeing the beauty of Mexican craftsmanship and understanding that behind every handmade piece there is time, history, and people.

I wanted to bring both worlds together into pet accessories made by artisans, using traditional Mexican techniques. And that’s how MEX.XOL was born.

Today, we work directly with artisans and Indigenous communities in Chiapas, Mexico. Our pieces are woven by artisan women using techniques passed down through generations. Every piece carries time, skill, and story.

Bringing these pieces to the UK is our way of sharing that heritage while supporting the communities behind it, helping these traditions continue to live and grow.

And this is only the beginning. Our dream is to work with more Indigenous communities across different regions of Mexico, exploring materials, techniques, and handcrafted processes so more stories and cultures can continue to be seen and valued.

HOW YOUR PIECE IS MADE

Get to know what’s behind our pieces.

Each piece starts as a traditional handwoven textile from San Juan Chamula, Chiapas.

The textiles are made by a group of women in the community. This craft has been passed down through generations, and each artisan brings her own style, colour choices, and weaving patterns into every piece.

The weaving itself takes around 2 hours. Each textile is unique, and the artisans have full creative freedom in the colours and patterns they use. They often weave together, sharing time, skills, and tradition.

Once the textile is ready, it’s taken to a small workshop in the community of San Francisco, where it’s turned into the final piece. The materials are prepared, cut, and assembled by hand, trying to keep as much of the original textile and its character as possible.

Because everything is handmade, no two pieces are exactly the same. And honestly, that’s part of what makes them special. It also helps make sure your pet is wearing something truly unique.
